Purpose
“Delta Sigma Pi is a professional fraternity organized to foster the study of business in universities; to encourage scholarship, social activity and the association of students for their mutual advancement by research and practice; to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and students of commerce, and to further a higher standard of commercial ethics and culture and the civic and commercial welfare of the community.”
The Mentorship Program serves as a relationship building support system between Alumni and Collegians. Every year during recruitment, we emphasize on alumni relations and yet every year we never live up to expectations.
With this program we will be able to move a step closer to serving Delta Sigma Pi’s purpose that is to “foster the study of business” and “to promote closer affiliation between the commercial world and student of commerce”.
Why Become a Mentor?
It is understandable that benefits for the alumni are not as great as benefits for a collegian. However, by becoming a mentor you will be receiving an opportunity to reflect on your skills, practices, and be admired for your success in the business world. Being a mentor also gives you a chance to get exposed to new ideas and the opportunity to share your experiences with collegians that are interested. Get that personal satisfaction and pride that you’re seeking for by teaching the future business leaders.
IBM’s has a motto for its mentoring program and that is “give back, reach back, and pull through”
Being a mentor doesn’t mean that you’ll be spammed with emails and get bothered all the time. It gives you an opportunity to speak to one individual collegian that has the same interests as you do and would like insights, advice, and guidance. Based on your digression, you may communicate on a weekly basis to a monthly basis. After a semester or two of mentoring a collegian, a luncheon will be set up to give you a chance to meet the collegian face to face.
Give back to your home chapter, be a proud Lambdasig, and guide us to a better future!
“Delta Sigma Pi is not just for 4 years, it’s for life.”
I am Interested… How does this program work?
It is as easy as 1-2-3…
- Contact the Vice President of Alumni Relations, and simply inform him or her that you are interested. A profile form will be created and you will be asked a series of questions. All you have to do is answer it.
- The VPAR will then take your information and match your profile with a collegian’s and issue out an email with all the information you need about one another. The collegian will send out his or her first email and then you two may create a pen pal relationship over email.
- After a semester or two of communication, a luncheon or “Alumni Date” will be arranged for all the participants of this program. By then, hopefully your relationship has been built and will continue from here forward.
