Alumni Archive

Hello!

Dear Alumni,

As your new Vice President- Alumni Relations I want to take this time to say hello and  introduce myself.

For those of you who don’t already know who I am, my name is Jen Lee. I was initiated with the Alpha Upsilon pledge class in Spring 2008, and for those of you who are curious, my initiate number is 395. Prior to this position, I was also Faculty Liaison, Vice President – Pledge Education Assistant for the Alpha Phi class, Vice President – Scholarship and Awards, and Chancellor. Last summer, I had the honor to receive one of nine scholarships from the Leadership Foundation to attend the LeaderShape program. As far as my major is concerned, I am [still] a Business major with concentrations in Accounting and Information Systems; and with any luck I’ll be graduating this coming spring. If there is anything else that you would like to know about me you are more than welcome to ask me anytime. I’m looking forward to getting to meet and know all of you better this semester.

My goal for this semester as VP – Alumni Relations is to cultivate a much stronger bond between the current collegiate members and you, our alumni, through a series of events that are catered to your tastes and based on what you want to do. I will always be looking for feedback on events and any suggestions that you might have so please speak up! Also if you have any event in mind that you would like to do or themes for events, please let me know. The best way to contact me is through email at jenlee@csufdsp.net. Don’t worry, I check my email all the time, it is jut easier for me since I can get back to you during the non-normal hours that are most convenient for me.

I am already beginning to plan our 25th Anniversary banquet, which is just one short year away. Currently, we are planning on at having it on Friday, December 2, 2011 . Save the date because we would love to see everyone there, it is after all, the 25th anniversary! I will be sure to announce any details as soon as they have been finalized. It’s a huge mile marker for us as a Chapter and I would love to see as many Brothers there as possible!

Since we’re already here, I would also like to take this time to let you know about the events that we’ve had during the summer so far as well as upcoming ones that are already on the calendar. I hope to see you out at our events!

Past Events from the Summer So Far

  • Brotherhood – Lake Havasu Retreat:
Earlier this summer we had a Brotherhood retreat at Lake Havasu in Arizona with the goal of continuing to build our brotherhood and teamwork skills. Needless to say, it was very hot out in Arizona, but we still managed to have a fantastic time none the less.
  • Professional Activities – Professional Event with Mr. Joel Mjolsness:
For our first professional event of the school year, Mr. Mjolsness came in and spoke to us on a variety of topics. We were able to choose what we wanted to talk about from a list of topics that he had prepared for us and in this way we were able to decide what the actual topics of our professional event were. We discussed a variety of topics ranging from retirement to what it’s like to work for a start up company.
  • Alumni Relations – US vs. Uganda Soccer Match at BJ’s Brewery:
Originally, this event was planned as a Sports & BBQ day in the park. But when we realized that it was the same day as the US vs. Uganda match for the World Cup, we of course had to cancel the event and move it to a place with no shortage of TV’s to watch the game.

Upcoming Events

  • Fundraising – Irvine Lake Mud Run:
We were offered the opportunity to work at the Irvine Lake Mud Run to help us with our fundraising efforts. We are paid per person per shift, so if you don’t have any plans for this weekend we can always use a helping hand. There are two shifts per day on both Saturday or Sunday. Contact David Chau at davidchau@csufdsp.net if you think you’d like to help out!
  • Community Service – Hemopets w/ OCAC:
We will be walking and playing with retired racing greyhounds on either Saturday the 24th, or the 31st.
  • Sports & BBQ Day:
This will be attempt number 2 at getting everyone out again to play some sports and just enjoy a good old BBQ on a nice summer day in the park. Unfortunately, it’s warmed up quite a bit since the first time we tried this, but at least it finally feels a little more like summer and less like winter.  We haven’t quite decided when we’re going to host this event yet, but it will be during the weekend in Brea. So, stay tuned for details, I just wanted to give you a heads up on this event and I hope to see you guys all there.

Thanks for checking in with us and we hope to see you at some of our upcoming events. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns you might have. I’d love to hear from you even if you just want to check in with us and let us know that you’re still around or if you’re hoping to get back in touch with people from your pledge class!

Fraternally,

Jen Lee #395
